In response to a PIL (public interest litigation) calling for the banning of the well-known mobile game, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) representative N. Samaya Balan informed the Telangana High Court that Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) and PUBG Mobile are two different apps. For those who are unaware, Advocate Anil Stevenson Jangam filed the PIL under discussion, claiming that Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), which goes by a different moniker, is the same game as PUBG Mobile.
As per the reports by IANS, “BGMI and the banned application PUBG Mobile are the same game with only cosmetic changes. The new application Battlegrounds Mobile India is fraught with all the dangers its banned earlier version posed to our children and adolescents. Therefore, the new version also deserves to be banned,“ said PIL.
The PIL basically says that Tencent and publisher Krafton utilized the front businesses to conceal the app’s ties to China. Due to the app’s connections with Tencent, which is based in China, PUBG Mobile was prohibited in India in 2020. Jangam requested that Battlegrounds Mobile India be prohibited for the same reason.
