The Vikram Lander successfully separates from the ISRO’s Chandrayaan 2 Orbiter. its been more than one month since ISRO launched the Chandrayaan 2. Scientists around the world appreciated India’s one of the most successful organizations, ISRO – India Space Research Organization on the day of launch, 22nd July. After some technical glitch, ISRO rescheduled the launch from 14th July to 22nd July.
What’s the update?
Currently, the Vikram Lander is located in an orbit of 119 km x 127 km. However, the Chandrayaan 2 Orbiter continues to orbit the Moon in its existing orbit. Furthermore, the condition of the Orbiter and Lander is monitored continuously from the Mission Operations Complex (MOX) at ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC), situated in Bengaluru. It’s working with support from Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) antennas at Bylalu, near Bengaluru. All the systems of Chandrayaan 2 Orbiter and Lander are working as expected. Furthermore, the Vikram Lander successfully separates and the next maneuver is scheduled for September 03, 2019.
What’s so special about Chandrayaan 2?
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced Chandrayaan program back in 2003, Since then, ISRO is working on Chandrayaan. In 2008, they launched Chandrayaan 1, which was a great success. It discovered the existence of water in the moon.
Chandrayaan 2 is one of the most important space mission of India. Because it is the very 1st space mission to conduct a soft landing on the Moon’s south polar region. Furthermore, 1st Indian expedition to attempt a soft landing on the moon’s surface with home-grown technology. besides that, India will become the 4th country ever to soft-land on the lunar surface. isn’t it exciting!
Furthermore, India isn’t using the conventional technique of western countries to reach the moon. The technique, IRSO is using is unique. The reason is India don’t have that powerful engine to take the Chandrayaan directly to the moon. That where the Indian Intelligence comes to play. What is Chandrayaan 2 containing though?
Let’s start with the launcher. ISRO has used the GSLV Mk-III is India’s most powerful launcher to date and it has been completely designed and fabricated from within India. Furthermore, Orbiter will observe the lunar surface and relay communication between Earth and Chandrayaan 2’s Lander, Vikram. Chandrayaan 2 also contains a rover call “Pragyan” which means wisdom.
