NASA will design 3D-printed houses for Our red planet “Mars” where we may use it in future

Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and some more talk about getting humans on Mars. NASA sorts out what Martians are going to live in on mars. Last week Space agency announced the five finalist teams. Yes, these teams designed sustainable shelters for Mar’s atmosphere and landscape, where designs are capable of being 3D-printed given the limits of transporting materials to our Red Planet ‘Mars’. Prize money of this competition is $100,000 which is totally based on judge’s score. All the team shares this level.

This is one of the three phases of the years-long 3D-Printed Habitat Competition which was stared in 2014. Many Teams of designers for Mars-suitable houses from world wide was called by NASA, putting them through a structural components phase and an architectural renderings phase. Now comes to the third phase which involve five levels, three of them are construction and two are virtual and $2 million is the total prize for all the five levels.

For the first two virtual levels the competition is up to now and the teams use Building Information Modeling software to bring their designs to life. There are five videos showing the winners’ digital representations, in order of how they placed:

1. Zopherus, Arkansas

2. AI SpaceFactory, New York

3. Kahn-Yates, Mississippi

4. SEArch+/Apis Cor, New York

5. Northwestern University, Illinois

Then finalists enter into the three construction levels, where they’ll have to 3D print their habitat to one third of its final scale. All we can say ‘Good luck’ to them…
