Elon Musk’s Neuralink And The Advanced Brain-Machine Interfaces

Elon Musk has proved his abilities many times. The idea of Neuralink proves it again. Many people even think that he is a genius. His inventions are already changing the world. The Tesla car, the car of the future, has already brought the revenue of $1.24 billion. SpaceX’s Falcon rocket has shown the new way of reusability. And the Hyperloop and the Starlink are yet to start the successful journey.

Thus he is contributing towards changing the world in many ways and now he has introduced Neuralink with his latest idea to bind the brain to the machine.

Earlier this month, on 16th, Elon Musk had introduced his new idea. He wants the natural and artificial intelligence work together in human. His company Neuralink is working on this project and they call it BMI i.e. Brain-Machine Interfaces. Elon Musk founded the company Neuralink back in 2017. Since then, the company had been working on the same project but Musk was silent about it for so long and after a few successful tests, he has revealed his idea.

Neuralink and the other companies had been working for the BMI (Brain-Machine Interfaces) especially for the disabled people. So that the disabled persons can control the electronics with their mind, without moving any body parts. So certainly a wise reason.

The technology isn’t very new at all. In fact, in 1950, BMI was tested successfully for the first time. Such tech has been used for a long time but Neuralink has something innovative approach. According to their recent presentation, they have developed flexible threads that are completely safe for the brain. Besides, their technology is far better than any other competitor as it won’t cause any brain damage.

The way Neuralink works

When the Neurons send or receive any signal then, a small amount of electricity flows through that. The electricity causes a magnetic field. The highly sensitive threads are capable of sensing these fields. And the threads send this as an analog signal to the main device. The device will amplify the signal and process the signal and will take necessary action. In the other way too, the threads can send an analog signal so that the neurons can sense it. Thus a two-way communication is possible.

The threads developed by the team have a thickness less than hair. And 100 to 1000 of treads might be implemented in a human brain. The recent tests were very successful and we can also imagine the further use of this technology. The human brain will be able to get data from outside through the device, thus telepathy may also come true someday with this technology.

“Each thread can be individually inserted into the brain with micron precision for the avoidance of surface vasculature and targeting specific brain regions.”– According to the papers. The thread will also allow us to take a large amount of data from the brain.

The Neurotech business will be a market-boom in the future, predicted by industry analyst a long ago. And the recent prediction says the business may reach $12 billion by 2020. So, profitable business indeed.

Is there any risk

According to Musk, “It’s not going to be suddenly Neuralink will have this neural lace and start taking over people’s brains”, thus he assured that there’s no risk, rather it will help humans by the AI and many other ways. It’s just the beginning.

The Neuralink team is still testing on the rats. Even Musk admits it that, it isn’t ready yet to test on humans. And it will need FDA approval anyways to perform a test on humans. So, no risks yet. The presentation was all for drawing attention and attract talents for such experiments.
