Elon Musk Is Visiting India Soon

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, SpaceX and The Boring Company is finally going to visit India! Elon Musk has expressed his desire to visit India sometime early next year. After completing his three days trip to China, he was happy about his trip to an Asian country. Amit Paranjape a Twitter user asked Elon Musk about his plans for visiting India. Elon Musk replied to his tweet saying that, “Prob early next year” on his visit to India.

Why Is Tesla Motors Not In India?

The main question in everyone’s mind is that why is the famous electric car motors brand Tesla not present in India? Well, if we take a look on the matter it was found that Elon Musk tried to enter the Indian market in 2015. But due to local source norms, it was not possible for him to do so. Later on, in summer 2017, Elon Musk tried again to expand its Tesla Motorcars into the Indian market but did not succeed.

Earlier this year in May, Elon Musk tweeted a global picture of the presence of Tesla cars, an Indian user Vinit Swami said “No Tesla In India”. Elon Musk replied to him. He said that “We will love to be in India. But due to some challenging government regulations, we are not able to do so. Our very own CFO, Deepak Ahuja is from India and he believes that Tesla will be there in India very soon”.

When Elon Musk was confident about bringing in their Tesla Cars in the Indian market, they faced a lot of difficulties. Tesla Motorcar was ready to bring their cars in May 2017, but they had to put their project on hold. The only reason was they were facing problems with the Indian government. Elon Musk tweeted that “We were informed that the Indian government wants the foreign products to use 30% of their parts from the local market. Since India doesn’t have the supply yet, it is not possible for us to bring Tesla Cars in India”.

After Modi government came into effect, they were concerned more with the development of India. They launched the “Make In India” wherein they tried to make their Commerce and Trade Industry bloom. They stated that a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) does not mandate the companies to have minimum sourcing of components.

Verdict

Elon Musk is looking forward to bring the Tesla Cars in India. In 2016, Tesla started taking bookings for its Model 3 Sedan priced at $35,000. It saw a good sale when many members like PayTm’s CEO and other people signed up. But, it was to be cut short due to the project being put on hold by Tesla.

However, the Indian government is trying to make 30% of their cars run on electricity by 2030. It will reduce the pollution to a much larger extent. Hence, it will be near that Tesla Motorcars will make an entry into the Indian market.
