Musk made this announcement through an official blog post. He made it clear that the company will not issue any lawsuit against those who use its patented technology with good purpose.
According to Musk, they do not have any competition from non-Tesla electric cars. Rather, they are worried about a large number of gasoline cars being produced by the world’s factories every day.
The day when Musk made this announcement is worth noting. The announcement was made on the same day when a Chinese national was driven to the prison for stealing an important patent for Project Titan, which is Apple’s aspiring project. This project also includes the concept of self-driving cars.

Back in 2018, Musk also provided the source code for Tesla Model S/X. It contained the system image on Nvidia Tegra-based infotainment system and Tesla Autopilot platform used in the electric cars.
