The company already failed to achieve Musk’s 2017 estimate for rollout of Full Self-Driving car. And now, the company has taken back the feature of Full Self-Driving in general. The company wants to prepare itself completely before rolling out this feature to achieve its biggest goal.
Tesla needs many improvements in its autonomous driving approach. It has already faced many problems due to its “Autopilot” term. Its cars were only able to handle specific driving situations with driver supervision. So, that’s not something “Autopilot”. Also, it could mislead consumers and cause serious problems.
The removal of this options suggests a change in Tesla’s ultimate goal of creating its cars fully autonomous. Musk also wanted to follow through on Tesla’s plan of swapping out the NVIDIA board in customers cars. So, they might be still working on their autonomous plans. Now, Tesla’s goal of creating fully autonomous cars could be a long-term plan.
Announcements and promises like Full Self-Driving could mislead consumers and create fake sense of security. When lives of people are at stake, all you need to do is to avoid the situation of consumer confusion. Even those cars with advanced driver assistance system require an attentive driver supervision. So, before rolling out any feature that could mislead consumers, it is better to prepare the system perfectly.
