Some Chinese viewers found a digitized version of Xinhua’s regular news anchor named Qiu Hao. This digitized version of news anchor based on AI-technology will not only perform like humans, but also look like a real news anchor. Qiu Hao is dressed in a pin-striped suit with a red tie. Also, he indicates his head in emphasis, blinks eyes, and raises eyebrows a little. This AI-based news anchor will be available 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. Also, they can reuse the same anchor by copying and presenting at it different scenes for different news.
The Chinese news agency aims to develop the media industry with continuous innovation and deep integration of advanced technologies around the world. This news agency will introduce brand new news experiences to the world.
Xinhua created the AI technology in a partnership with a Chinese search engine Sogou. According to Xinhua, they developed digitized anchors with the help of machine learning. Using machine learning, they taught digitized anchors to stimulate facial movements, gestures, and vocalizations of real-life news anchors. So, instead of a machine-like robot, we will have a human-like robot.
The AI-based anchors had their debut during China’s annual World Internet Conference. This conference covers everything for China’s future plans, whether it is about the internet or tech of the future.
As mentioned above, Xinhua is already under the control of Chinese administration, which has strict rules for scripts and monitoring of information. Let’s see what happens on adding AI to Xinhua.
