Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday cited an unusual alleged theft case while speaking about the protection of public property and civic infrastructure during a public event in the state. Referring to CCTV footage, the chief minister claimed that a person travelling in a luxury vehicle worth nearly ₹2.5 crore was allegedly caught stealing a flower pot valued at around ₹45.
Highlighting the issue during his address, Adityanath criticised the misuse and theft of government-installed beautification materials placed across cities and public spaces. “We install flower pots, and someone comes in a car and takes away the pot. The fuel used in the car itself could have bought a new pot,” he remarked.
Calling it a “new model of theft,” the chief minister said surveillance cameras captured the expensive vehicle allegedly being used in the incident. “Such an expensive vehicle — around a Rs 2.5 crore car — and yet it was used to steal a pot worth Rs 45,” he added.
Adityanath also stressed the importance of civic responsibility and urged people to help maintain cleanliness and urban beautification efforts rather than damaging public assets. He noted that CCTV monitoring systems are now widely installed and regularly reviewed by authorities to track theft, vandalism and misuse of government property.
