A 25-year-old woman has alleged that she was sexually harassed by a fellow passenger while travelling on a Namma Metro train in central Bengaluru, leading police to register a Non-Cognisable Report (NCR) in the matter. The incident took place on Tuesday near the Majestic interchange, one of the city’s busiest transit points.
According to police, the accused is a 55-year-old man identified as Mutappa, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time. Officials said the man repeatedly fell against the woman during the journey, prompting her to confront him inside the train and later alert metro security staff. Following her complaint, the case was referred to the Upparpet Police Station, where an NCR was filed. The man was summoned, questioned, issued a warning, and released.
In a video statement, the woman recounted that her commute lasted about 15 minutes. She said the accused sat unusually close after another passenger vacated the seat, making her uncomfortable. “At first, I thought it could be by mistake,” she said, adding that the behaviour continued, including physical contact with his hand and leg. “That moment, I realised this is not a mistake. This is intentional. I was frozen. When I realised that someone was intentionally doing this to me. And I was really angry.” she stated.
When both alighted at the same station, the woman said she slapped the man on the platform before security personnel intervened. She later alleged she was told the man had been travelling continuously for nearly an hour and was drunk. The woman also expressed concern over advice she claimed she received from police, saying she was told to move away if she sensed danger, a suggestion she questioned publicly.
