SaaS leader Freshworks has announced a layoff impacting 13% of its global workforce, translating to approximately 660 positions out of its 5,000 employees. CEO Dennis Woodside, in an internal memo, outlined that the decision aligns with Freshworks’ strategic focus on its AI-driven offerings and its Customer Experience (CX) and Employee Experience (EX) sectors, deemed crucial for the company’s growth.

This restructuring follows a strategic review initiated by the Freshworks Board of Directors upon Woodside’s appointment five months ago. The assessment highlighted the importance of focusing on critical areas while operating more efficiently to enhance customer impact. “We are realigning our global workforce to allow greater emphasis on our EX, AI, and CX priorities,” Woodside noted, emphasizing that these changes would accelerate Freshworks’ growth while maintaining a profitable stance.

The affected employees are scheduled to receive notification through a “Transition Discussion” meeting, tailored to align with regional laws and practices. U.S.-based employees will be informed on Wednesday, while notifications for India-based employees are set for Thursday.

Freshworks assured support for departing employees, including severance packages, extended healthcare coverage, immigration assistance, and career transition services. This compassionate approach aims to aid employees as they transition from the company.

Amid these organizational changes, Freshworks remains committed to its technological advancements, recently rolling out Freddy AI Agent, an autonomous AI-driven service agent tailored to enhance both CX and EX initiatives. Freshworks reports that this AI agent has resolved 45% of customer support requests and 40% of IT service inquiries within deployment. The AI-focused trajectory has contributed to the company’s growth trajectory, with Freshworks reporting a 22% year-over-year revenue increase to $186.6 million for Q3 2024. Moreover, the company narrowed its net loss by 3.55% to $29.9 million in the same period.

Freshworks’ commitment to driving scalable and efficient solutions positions it for strategic expansion, with a sharpened focus on AI and experience-centered services poised to boost its market position.
