Union Cabinet Approves ₹1,000 Cr VC Fund for Space Startups

In her July statement, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the creation of a ₹1,000 crore venture capital fund to support space startups. The Union Cabinet has now authorized the setup of this fund under the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe), aiming to boost innovation and growth in India’s private space sector.

The government stated that the money would be used over five years. “Depending on the investment opportunities and fund requirements, the average deployment amount could be ₹150-250 crore annually,” the statement read. The government has set the period from FY26 to FY30 for deploying the funds.

Depending on the company‘s stage, growth trajectory, and possible influence on the national space arena, the typical investment would be between ₹10 crore and ₹60 crore.

The fund would provide growth-stage enterprises with an equity investment of roughly ₹10 crore to ₹30 crore, while late growth-stage companies would receive investments ranging from ₹30 crore to ₹60 crore.
