Contemporaneously, founded by Prasant Sachan, AppsForBharat aims to make a spiritual tech startup specialized in developing apps to provide Indian users with emerging spiritual and devotional needs.

In this Industry of Astrology, AppsForBharat and Astrotalk are rivals, yet their performance varies on many levels. As a result, Astrotalk has established itself as the dominant player with a noteworthy market share of 80% while the other startup has only captured a 15% share in the market.

The remaining market share belongs to the other two startups. Astroyogi and InstaAstro are the other upcoming startups trying to position themselves in this industry to capture significant market shares through innovative business strategies.

InstaAstro based in Noida, is a multidimensional well-being platform that offers the guidance of experienced astrologers to customers, globally through Kundli analysis, Vastu consultation, Tarot reading, Numerology, Psychic, and more.

In June 2024, the spiritual tech startup Astrotalk announced that it had raised $14 million in a funding round led by Elev8 Venture partners, resulting in the firm’s total funding of $30.3 million with a current valuation of $300 million.

As per the recent news, Delhi NCR-headquartered startup, Astrotalk is now expanding its business portfolio by entering into the spiritual e-commerce space, aiming to showcase Rs.100Cr. in revenue within a few months with the help of the firm’s new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) on board.

In the meantime, a YouTube profile named ‘Gyan Therapy’ with a subscriber base of over 3 million on YouTube, did a ‘sting’ operation targeting several self-designated astrologers associated with Astrotalk’s platform, which led to severe criticism of the spiritual startup.

However, AppsForBharat despite having a lesser market share, outperformed Astrotalk by securing $33.4 million as its total funding. Valued at $87.5 million, AppsForBharat’s total funding reflected a 10% increase over Astrotalk’s total resources.

In September 2024, AppsForBharat, the parent company of the spiritual platform Sri Mandir, bagged $18 million in its latest funding round headed by Fundamentum.

Although Astroyogi is still unfunded, InstaAstro only managed to pocket $2.73 million as its total funding, which is just 9% and 8.17% of the total financing of Astrotalk and AppsForBharat respectively.

In May 2024, the leading online astrology firm InstaAstro raised Rs.18.50Cr. in its latest pre-series A funding round led by Artha Venture Fund.

Digital astrology consulting services provider, Astrotalk generated revenue of Rs.620-630Cr. in FY24 spiking by around 120% from Rs.283Cr. in FY23 with its net profit surging by 344% to Rs.120Cr. in FY24 from Rs.27Cr. in FY23.

In juxtaposition, AppsForBharat in FY24 filed revenue that skyrocketed by 426% from Rs.3.53Cr. in FY23 to Rs.18.59Cr., marking a decline of 33 times compared to Astrotalk’s revenue for the same year. In FY23 AppsForBharat’s revenue was notably reduced by a staggering 80 times relative to Astrotalk’s figure for that same period.

Concurrently, Astroyogi’s revenue stood at Rs.68.95Cr. in FY23 soaring by 35% from Rs.51.1Cr. in FY22 while InstaAstro recorded revenue of Rs.13.03Cr. in FY23 which increased by 237% from Rs.3.86Cr. in FY22.

Thus, Astroyogi outpaced InstraAstro by increasing its revenue by 425% and 1223% in FY23 and FY22 respectively, whereas, it suppressed AppsForBharat by boosting its revenue by 1853% in FY23.

AppsForBharat faced a net loss of Rs.31Cr. in FY24 which declined by 31% from Rs.45Cr. in FY23. InstaAstro on the other side, filed a net loss of Rs.4.26Cr. in FY23, which dropped by almost 10 times compared to the net loss that AppsForBharat witnessed during the same time.

In FY22, InstaAstro outperformed Astroyogi by reporting a net loss of Rs.3.08Cr. since the other one only filed a net loss of Rs.40 lakh. Although, Astroyogi achieved a net profit of Rs.1.71Cr. in FY23.

Recently, the Astro tech startup, InstaAstro announced its partnership with the leading Bollywood actress Bhumi Pednekar to promote the brand.

This brand also witnessed an exponential growth of almost 200% in average monthly transactions on the platform and 10X customer engagement from countries overseas.

This analysis reveals that these startups are experiencing fluctuations in their financial and business status. However, they remain committed and competitive, working diligently to establish a strong position in the astrology tech industry.
