Apple is expanding its presence in India with the launch of four new stores and the introduction of its first-ever ‘Made in India’ iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models. The company has unveiled its plans to establish outlets in Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, and Mumbai, as it seeks to broaden its reach in one of the globe’s leading markets for smartphones.
Apple currently operates two stores in India, both of which were inaugurated in April 2023 in Delhi and Mumbai. The upcoming stores are anticipated to open their doors in the coming year.
In addition to its retail growth, Apple has announced the start of sales for its ‘Made in India’ iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models starting this month. It is a major achievement for Apple, which began producing iPhones in India in 2017. The company plans to manufacture the iPhone 16 series in India, not just for the domestic market but also for export to specific countries around the world.
“Manufactured in India iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will soon be available for our local customers and for export to select countries across the world,” Apple released a statement.
“We’re thrilled to build our teams as we plan to open more stores in India because we’re inspired by the creativity and passion of our customers across this country. We can’t wait for them to have even more opportunities to discover and shop for our amazing products and services, and connect with our extraordinary, knowledgeable team members,” Deirdre O’Brien, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Retail, shared with PTI.
The move is expected to advance Apple’s supply chain operation while aligning with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
With the opening of new stores and the introduction of locally produced iPhone models, Apple is set to capitalize on India’s increasing demand for premium smartphones. As per sources, high-end ‘Made in India’ iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models will be available for purchase later this month.
