Adani Group is set to provide renewable energy for Google‘s cloud infrastructure and activities in India, as announced by the companies on Thursday.
Adani Group will supply 61.4 megawatts of power from a new solar-wind hybrid project situated at its 30 gigawatt (GW) Khavda renewable energy park in Gujarat.
Google powers its cloud services and operations largely with electricity from the grid, with plans to transition to 100% renewable energy for its operations by 2030.
It is expected that the Adani Group will begin commercial operations in the third quarter of 2025.
During the ‘Google for India’ event, the company also revealed a collaboration with CleanMax for acquiring 125.4 MW of renewable energy to fuel its offices and cloud regions in India.
Among the contracted amounts, 66 MW will be from solar energy in Rajasthan, and 59.4 MW from wind energy in Karantaka.
The search giant shared the news at the ‘Google for India’ event, while the Adani Group provided further details in a statement.
Google announced, “These projects are expected to start commercial operations in Q4 2025 and will deliver carbon-free energy to the grid where Google operates offices and cloud regions in India.”
“Through this partnership Adani will supply clean energy from a new solar-wind hybrid project located in the world’s largest renewable energy plant at Khavda, Gujarat. This new project is expected to start commercial operations in the third quarter of 2025,” the Adani Group statement said.
This partnership aims to take Google towards its 24/7 carbon-free energy objective by ensuring that cloud services and operations in India are powered by renewable energy and supporting Google’s sustainable expansion in India.
Adani had earlier shared plans to establish data centers powered by renewable energy. In October 2022, it leased 4.64 lakh square feet of space at its data center in Noida to Raiden Infotech, a division of Google.
