Zomato co-founder and Chief People Officer Akriti Chopra has resigned from the food delivery giant after 13 years of service, the company disclosed in a filing to the stock exchange on September 27, 2024. Her resignation is effective immediately, as noted in her exit email addressed to Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal.
Chopra’s departure adds to a series of high-profile exits from the company in recent years. In her farewell email, Chopra expressed gratitude for her journey at Zomato, stating, “It’s been an incredibly enriching journey over the past 13 years. Thank you for everything. I’m always a call away.”
Chopra, who is also the wife of Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa, was a significant part of Zomato’s leadership team, playing a key role in shaping the company’s culture and people practices. Her exit follows the resignations of other senior-level executives, including former CTO Gunjan Patidar, co-founder Mohit Gupta, and several others in 2023.
Over the past two years, five co-founders, including Chopra, have exited the company. Earlier, co-founders Pankaj Chaddah and Gaurav Gupta had left Zomato in 2018 and 2021, respectively. This leadership churn has created significant challenges for the company, though Zomato has responded by bringing back key employees like Rahul Ganjoo and Pradyot Ghate to revamp its “going-out” business segment.
Chopra’s resignation marks the latest in a string of changes in Zomato’s leadership as it continues to navigate a rapidly evolving business landscape.
