Delhi’s Saket Court has ordered a five-day judicial custody for Deepak Gupta, a relative of BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the BharatPe financial fraud case. Gupta, the former head of administration and procurement at BharatPe, was presented before the court after completing five days of police custody, according to ANI reports.
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police arrested Gupta on allegations of misappropriating funds from BharatPe. The case involves ₹72 crore in payments made to bogus vendors, with overall fraud estimates at BharatPe reportedly reaching ₹81 crore. Authorities sought 10 days of custody for Gupta to further investigate his connections, particularly with another accused, Amit Bansal, and to recover a computer central to the investigation.
The legal dispute between Ashneer Grover and BharatPe dates back to 2022, when Grover was ousted from the company over allegations of fund misuse. Gupta’s arrest has intensified the ongoing legal battle. The police are investigating the flow of funds and alleged misappropriation tied to both Gupta and Bansal, according to ANI.
Separately, the Delhi High Court recently granted Ashneer Grover and his wife, Madhuri Jain, permission to travel abroad, overriding a lookout notice issued by the EOW. The couple challenged the notice, and Justice Sanjeev Narula approved their travel to the UK from September 28 to October 7 and Qatar from October 17 to 20, despite opposition from the Special Public Prosecutor representing the Delhi Police. Grover and Jain had also received permission earlier to visit the United States.
