To leverage the growth in the Indian semiconductor industry, L&T Semiconductor Technologies (LTSCT) has partnered with tech giant IBM on research and development to create cutting-edge processors. The companies have stated that this alliance would cover sectors such as servers, mobility, industrial, energy, and processor design for edge devices and hybrid cloud systems.
General manager of IBM Semiconductors Mukhesh Khare stated, “Leveraging our collective strengths and advanced capabilities, we are dedicated to working with key public and private collaborators to advance what’s next in semiconductor and processor design technologies.”
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IBM and the India Semiconductor Mission to expedite advancements in semiconductor technology was signed about a year before the announcement of the alliance. In addition, an agreement was made to work together on a cooperative working group to expedite the design and production of processors for High-Performance Computing (HPC) in India through an MoU inked with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). However, the semiconductor division of the massive construction business L&T, LTSCT, asserts that it is India’s first semiconductor product company. The objective is to develop a range of smart devices spanning MEMS sensors, power, analog mixed signal, and RF products, all based in India, to cater to the automotive, industrial, energy, and telecommunication sectors. Last week, the business and C-DAC inked a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on the development of semiconductor technology driven by India and its surrounding ecosystem. Additionally, it signed a similar agreement to work together on research and development of futuristic semiconductors with IIT-Gandhinagar.
“The goal of our work with IBM is to harness our cutting-edge semiconductor design technology and IBM’s advanced processors to forge next-generation technology products,” stated Sandeep Kumar, CEO of LTSCT, about the partnership.
The Central government wants to expand the scope of ISM to support the emerging ecosystem. To look into “opportunities to grow and diversify” the global semiconductor ecosystem, the US State Department announced on Monday that it would collaborate with the India Semiconductor Mission. The Center has given its approval to Kaynes Semicon’s proposal to invest INR 3,300 crore in building a semiconductor plant in Gujarat.
