Fabricio Bloisi, the new CEO of Dutch-listed investment firm Prosus, is set to visit India in the second week of August, marking his first trip to the country since assuming the role in May. Prosus, which has invested approximately $7 billion in India, will see Bloisi visiting Bengaluru and Delhi during his two-day stay.
Bloisi’s visit comes at a pivotal time, with Swiggy, in which Prosus holds the largest stake, preparing for its initial public offering (IPO). Additionally, Prosus recently had to write off its under 10% stake in Byju’s, after investing $500 million in the troubled edtech company.
During his visit, Bloisi is scheduled to meet with the founders of Swiggy, Urban Company, and Meesho in Bengaluru. He will also engage with other investors and bankers. This visit aims to provide Bloisi with a deeper understanding of the performance of Prosus’s local investments and to strategize on future plans, given that India remains a crucial market for both Prosus and its parent company, Naspers.
Bloisi took over from interim CEO Ervin Tu, following the abrupt resignation of long-time CEO Bob van Dijk last September. Bloisi previously served as CEO of Brazilian food delivery startup iFood, now owned by Prosus.
“While the Swiggy IPO is a significant focus, Bloisi will also be meeting with other top portfolio firms. The objective is to gain insights into the local business landscape and future opportunities,” said a source familiar with the matter.
A spokesperson for Prosus did not respond to queries regarding Bloisi’s visit.
In addition to his visit, Prosus recently promoted senior executive Ashutosh Sharma to lead investments in India and Southeast Asia. Sharma now collaborates closely with Bloisi.
Prosus’s portfolio in India includes notable firms such as business-to-business e-commerce platform Elastic Run, e-pharmacy PharmEasy, e-commerce aggregator Mensa Brands, and agritech company DeHaat.
