South Park Commons (SPC), the renowned technical community and early-stage venture fund, has announced its first international expansion in Bengaluru, India, in collaboration with Binny Bansal, co-founder of Flipkart.
Founded in 2015 by Ruchi Sanghvi, the first female engineer at Facebook and former VP of operations at Dropbox, SPC aims to provide a supportive environment for startup founders, technologists, and researchers navigating the early stages of their careers.
SPC, which already operates successful communities in San Francisco and New York City, sees Bengaluru as an ideal location due to India’s matured startup ecosystem and dense talent pool.
Aditya Agarwal, former CTO of Dropbox and co-founder of SPC Fund in 2018, expressed optimism about Bengaluru’s potential, stating, “The Indian startup ecosystem has matured to sustain the incredible talent density that makes SPC work. Founders can now build world-class companies without relocating to the US.”
SPC’s model emphasizes leveraging local technical talent and fostering a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem. The community aims to replicate its success in nurturing early-stage AI researchers and founders, similar to its existing hubs.
SPC has recently closed its third fund, following earlier funds of $50 million in 2018 and $150 million in 2020. The firm is also exploring expansion into the UK and plans to establish an India-focused fund to support emerging startups.
