Tune AI, a Flipkart and Accel-backed startup, is revolutionizing how enterprises and developers deploy generative AI in their workflows. Founded by Anshuman Pandey, Naman Maheshwari, and Rohan Pooniwala, Tune AI evolved from Nimblebox.ai, a platform originally aimed at simplifying AI development for machine learning (ML) engineers. The trio, who met during their undergraduate studies at SRM University, Chennai, built Nimblebox.ai to help developers quickly set up ML projects, addressing significant entry barriers.
“We initially aimed to help users get started with their ML projects quickly,” said Naman Maheshwari. “There was a huge barrier to entry, and we wanted to fix that.”
Nimblebox.ai swiftly gained traction, serving 16,000 developers from 200 companies across 30 countries. In 2023, recognizing the rising demand for generative AI solutions, the founders shifted their focus and launched Tune AI to help enterprises and developers leverage generative AI for their applications and workflows.
“We built machine learning models for enterprises and updated our platform to work with advanced language models,” explained Maheshwari. “We were one of only four companies to make Meta’s Llama 2 available for internet users within 24 hours of its public release.”
Tune AI, based in San Francisco and Chennai, offers two primary products: Tune Chat and Tune Studio. Tune Chat is an AI chat app that supports text generation, code generation, and brainstorming, catering to builders incorporating generative AI into their apps and products. “Every company will harness AI in some shape or form,” said Maheshwari. “Tune Chat is for knowledge workers in enterprises where data security and privacy are paramount.”
Tune Studio is a comprehensive solution for fine-tuning, deploying, and managing the generative AI model lifecycle, ensuring data security with enterprise-grade compliance. The platform’s “Ultimate creative sandbox” allows users to test open-source models and fine-tune performance. “Anyone looking to incorporate generative AI into their projects can use the platform with both closed and open-source models,” added Maheshwari.
The startup has seen significant demand, particularly in the UK, where it launched successfully in February 2024, with over 1,500 units ordered in the first few months. Customers, including independent retailers and interior designers, have resonated with Tune AI’s mission to bridge the gap between their stores and manufacturers.
Tune AI’s platform, built on open and closed-source models like ChatGPT, GPT-3.5, GPT-4, and Llama, offers flexibility and customization. The platform now boasts around 360,000 users, gaining approximately 3,000 new users daily. Tune Chat helps enterprises gain insights from their data while maintaining security, and Tune Studio is used by AI builders to prototype new applications.
“Our platform assists enterprise units in gaining better insights and making quick decisions,” said Maheshwari. “Tune Studio enables builders to quickly create prototypes and experiment with new applications.”
Tune AI has successfully reduced the manual processing time of certain workflows by over 30 times for its enterprise customers, demonstrating significant efficiency and cost savings. As the demand for generative AI solutions continues to rise, Tune AI is well-positioned to lead the way in helping enterprises and developers harness the power of AI.
