Snapdeal Partners with Digital India Bhashini to Boost Digital Inclusion Efforts

Snapdeal, a leading e-commerce platform, has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Digital India Bhashini, an Independent Business Division under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), to collaborate on developing language translation solutions aimed at fostering digital inclusion in India.

The partnership will harness the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create innovative products and services tailored to more than nine vernacular languages, facilitating access to digital platforms for individuals from diverse linguistic backgrounds.

Himanshu Chakrawarti, CEO of Snapdeal, expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, “We are excited to merge Bhashini’s expertise in language solutions with Snapdeal’s robust e-commerce infrastructure to empower individuals across India.”

The initiative underscores Snapdeal’s commitment to advancing digital inclusivity in the country, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to bridge linguistic barriers and broaden digital participation.

Amitabh Nag, CEO of Bhashini, emphasized the role of AI and voice-first technology in dismantling obstacles and fostering a more connected and inclusive digital ecosystem for all Indians. He affirmed the commitment to leveraging technology for societal benefit and enabling inclusive digital experiences.

Snapdeal’s financial performance in FY23 showcased significant growth, with revenues reaching Rs 388 crore. Notably, the company managed to slash losses by 45 per cent, reducing them to Rs 282 crore compared to Rs 510 crore in FY22. This underscores Snapdeal’s resilience and strategic focus on operational efficiency amidst a competitive market landscape.
