Captain Fresh Appoints Mathew George as Group CFO

Captain Fresh, a leading B2B fish and seafood supply chain company, has announced the appointment of Mathew George as its new Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Mathew George brings a wealth of experience to Captain Fresh, having previously served as Group CFO at Medi Assist Health Care Services. There, he played a pivotal role in multiple successful mergers and acquisitions (M&As) and was instrumental in managing the company’s IPO, which was oversubscribed 14.3 times. His impressive career also includes leadership roles at Jumbo Electronics, HCL Technologies, Cognizant Technologies, Accenture, GE Capital, and Genpact.

“We look forward to leveraging Mathew’s leadership as we aspire to evolve into a publicly listed institution,” said Utham Gowda, founder and chief executive officer of Captain Fresh.

Founded four years ago, Captain Fresh has rapidly grown into a prominent player in the seafood supply chain sector. The company has raised over $160 million in various funding rounds, including a $25 million extension to its Series C round in February. In the same month, Captain Fresh acquired CenSea Inc., a US-based frozen fish and seafood importer and distributor, further expanding its market presence.

Financially, Captain Fresh India saw its gross revenue surge 3.7 times year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 773 crore in FY23, up from Rs 208 crore in FY22. However, the firm also registered a 2.45 times increase in losses, amounting to Rs 252 crore in FY23.

The company expects to close FY25 with revenues exceeding $650 million (more than Rs 5,000 crore), although it has yet to file its audited financials for FY24.

Mathew George’s extensive expertise in financial management and strategic growth is anticipated to be a significant asset for Captain Fresh as it continues to scale and aims for public listing in the future.
