Rahul Chaudhary, who joined venture capital firm Matrix Partners India in February last year, has resigned to embark on a new entrepreneurial journey. According to Entrackr, Chaudhary left the firm in January and is set to launch his new venture soon.
Prior to his tenure at Matrix, Chaudhary co-founded Treebo, a hotel aggregation platform, where he spent nearly seven years. He continues to serve on Treebo’s board, alongside fellow co-founders Sidharth Gupta and Kadam Jeet Jain. It is noteworthy that Matrix Partners India was an early investor in Treebo.
During his time at Matrix Partners India, the firm launched a $450 million fund, which was later extended to $525 million. Under Chaudhary’s leadership, the fund supported over a dozen startups, including Neysa, InPrime, Krutrim SI Designs, Aampe, Atomic Work, Wootz.work, Stable Money, and Scapia, among others.
Details regarding Chaudhary’s upcoming venture remain undisclosed. Attempts to reach him for comments did not elicit a response at the time of publication.
Chaudhary’s departure aligns with a broader trend in 2024 of venture capitalists transitioning to new ventures. In March, Sameer Brij Verma, managing director of Nexus Venture Partners, left to launch a multi-stage fund. Similarly, Piyush Gupta from Peak XV resigned in April to start his own VC firm.
That same month, Lightspeed partners Vaibhav Agrawal and Abhishek Nag also exited their roles; Agrawal is establishing his own venture firm, while Nag joined 360 One in Mumbai to lead early-stage investments.
Most recently, Anand Chandrasekaran departed from US-based VC firm General Catalyst to focus on his AI startup, Crescendo.
Chaudhary’s move highlights a growing wave of venture capitalists pivoting to new entrepreneurial endeavors, underscoring the dynamic nature of the startup ecosystem.
