Fortnite inspires players to enable 2FA by offering a funky new emote

The Fortnite team made an announcement today that it is going to offer a new “Boogie Down” emote to its users. It is for those of users who would enable two-factor authentication on their IDs. It is an amazing way to make accounts of its users more secure. Some young gamers don’t yet understand yow to protect their accounts online. So, offering this new emote will motivate its users to add an extra layer of security to their accounts.

This is something new. A never heard before move by any company providing free rewards to users for making their accounts more secure.

2FA means you will have an extra layer of security in addition to your password. The authentication app will provide you a second code via email or text to access your account. Fortnite will not require the second code every time you log in.

Once you enable 2FA on your account, you will be asked for the second code from any of the two-factor authentication method. Then, you will be able to log in to your account. For the first time you will have to enter the second code to access your account. Also, if you change your device, or it has been over 30 days since you last logged in, or if you have cleared your browsing cookies, you will need to enter the second code again.

The Fortnite posted a video for this new announcement via Twitter. And the above video syncs very well to Dazz Band’s “Let it Whip”.

This announcement does not clearly suggest anything. We are not sure that the emote will be automatically provided to those users who had already enabled two-factor authentication. But, the Fortnite will not do injustice with the users who had already enabled 2FA. The winner of the “Boogie Down” contest has itself submitted the emote.

Epic idea by Epic Games

The team provided detailed instructions on how you can enable 2FA from the settings. You can visit this link to read instructions. For this, the Fortnite suggests apps such as Google Authenticator, Authy, and Lastpass.

Very large number of users playing Fortnite are probably minors or kids. So, considering this fact, this is a creative move by the company to educate its players on how to secure their accounts. There are many con men who cheat youthful fanbase of gaming community. For example, a young guy provided his password to someone who was promising him free skins. So, the Fortnite wants to do no compromise with its users’ accounts.

But, two-factor authentication will not end such online scams. It is good as it sounds. But, there will be many players who will fall victim to such similar scams. But still, its a good move by Epic to motivate its users for protecting themselves. At last, 2FA is better than having nothing.
