A machine that generates oxygen 3.5 times purer than a normal concentrator

  • Om Redox converts water into oxygen
  • Which is 3.5 times purer than that received from a regular concentrator

Dr. Soumyajit Roy and his wife Dr. Pei Liang’s startup claims that Om Redox can generate oxygen from water that is 3.5 times purer than that received from a regular concentrator. “Pressure swing adsorption method for producing oxygen works with the liquefaction of air, while concentrator operates through concentration of air by a compressor and then passing it through a catalyst. In these two processes, oxygen generates from the air. Ours is an alternative technology,” says Dr. Soumyajit Roy.

Solaire Initiatives Pvt Ltd made this device that produces pure oxygen from water and situates at Webel-BCC&I Tech Incubation Center. The Department of Biotechnology selected this device for its 1st Bio-Tech Expo 2022. Union Science and Technology, a book launched by Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, featured Om Redox.

Om Redox, the machine generating oxygen from water technology, is approved by World Health Organization and European Conformity, says Soumyajit, professor at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata. He said that the invention, which creates oxygen from water by pneumatically connected water oxidation by electrocatalytic reaction (Power), is new.

Liang, at a programme organised jointly by West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corporation Limited (Webel) and the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that a sleek white pinewood box weighing 8 kg works on electricity and has a 3.5-hour battery backup is the product. It can be user-friendly as well.

“We are currently debating whether to manufacture and market the oxygen-producing equipment. We have faith in technology and are awed by how user-friendly it is. Any female or a male can use this device. The device is anticipated to go on sale within the next three months given the startup’s progress,” said Sunrita Hazra, Managing Director at West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corporation Limited (Webel).
