Wearable air conditioners is a newfound market which might work wonders in the future. Summers are awful no matter where you live in the globe.
People living in tropical countries are literally slow-cooked during this time. This makes it so hard for them to go out and perform their regular chores.
Most of us tend to stay indoors in order to keep away from the scorching heat. But what if we have a way to turn things around?
Air conditioning is something that can help ease out this problem but they are often too heavy and huge to carry around. Sony has come up with something that we can very well call a revolution.
Wearable Air Conditioners – Reon Pocket
Sony has a long history of introducing futuristic products into the market. Right now, they have launched a device line-up named “Reon Pocket”.
These little white plastic devices could fit right into your palms. You can easily charge these wearable air conditioners with a USB-C type charger.
You can also establish a connection with your iOS or Android device through BlueTooth. From the looks of it, it certainly resembles a Sony device.
They have a silicone lining on the rear side which will press against your back. Although you can carry these in your hand, Sony also sells a black V-neck t-shirt that comes with a dedicated pocket to hold the device in place.
How Does It Work?
The device works based on the Peltier effect and has the ability to cool or warm itself through absorption and emission of heat. It comes with an app which in itself is so simple to navigate.
It gives you complete control over the device’s temperature setting. You will receive three levels of heating and cooling with a bonus mode that you can only use for 2 minutes.
The app will also allow you to control the speed of the fan which determines the overall operating time of the device. You will be able to use the device for about 2 to 3 hours based on your settings.
The Look And Feel Of The Device
To our surprise, Sony says that their wearable air conditioners weigh just about 80 grams. So apart from the cooling and warmth that you get out of it, you will hardly notice its physical presence.
The size of the device is pretty small which doesn’t make it look obvious when you hide it inside your clothing.
Sony states that its devices can provide a change in body temperature for up to 13°C. The company also says that they have managed to distribute the airflow evenly throughout your entire back.
To put it in simple terms, the effect of Reon Pockets is not so different from holding a cold object close to your skin.
You will still feel the harshness of the summer but could get some relief no matter how small it is. The device is not yet available worldwide and it’s only sold in Japan.
In dollars, the device costs around $122 without including the undershirt which has a price of $17 per piece. If you really have the urge to try it, you can import it to your country as it also works in English.
