First of all, let us know what MediaTek is. It is a Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company that provides chips for wireless communications, High-definition television, handheld mobile devices like smartphones and tablet computers, navigation systems, consumer multimedia products, and Digital subscriber line services as well as optical disc drives.
MediaTek has unveiled worlds first mobile chipset with an integrated 5G modem. The size of the chipset is 7mm and it contains the newest CPU, GPU and APU technology for a big performance boost and super-fast connectivity. it combines company’s Helio M70 5G modem with ARM’s recently announced Cortex-A77 and Mali-G77, Which results in an integrated chip that should save on physical space inside the phone and battery life.
Specifications

The chip has a download speed of 4.7 Gbps and upload speed of 2.5 Gbps. Which comes along with intelligent power savings and comprehensive power management. The most mesmerizing fact about the chipset is that it has multi-mode support which includes 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G – and dynamic power-sharing for the best connectivity.
If we look from a technological perspective then MediaTek’s chip is not as advanced as Qualcomm’s latest modem. That is because it doesn’t appear to support mmWave along with sub-6Ghz. However, for MediaTek that doesn’t seem to be a problem.
Market competition.

As of now, MediaTek is not very competitive in the market. With the development of such chipset, it will soon rock the market. After Intel’s exit from the 5G phone business and the US’s blacklisting of Huawei, the amount of competition in the 5G hardware business has reduced significantly, so it’s good to see that MediaTek is still offering Qualcomm some competition in the 5G space. MediaTek has said that the firm would release its new chipset by early 2020.
