Google Wallet launched in India

In India, Google has officially launched its digital wallet called Google Wallet. It can be easily downloaded on Android smartphones for personal use. It should be noted that Google Wallet and Google Pay are two distinct applications with different functionalities and purposes.

According to the official announcement, Google has collaborated with 20 popular Indian brands to provide users with the Google Wallet experience. These brands include PVR & INOX, Air India, Indigo, Flipkart, Pine Labs, Hyderabad Metro, Kochi Metro, VRL Travels, Abhibus, Dominos, Shoppers Stop, and many others, while more partners will be added in the coming months.

The wallet app has now been made available in the country and will mainly serve non-payment purposes, complementing Google Pay, the payment app of the technology giant, as stated by the company.

Ram Papatla, general manager and India engineering lead, Android at Google, said, “The arrival of Google Wallet in India marks an important milestone in Android’s India journey, bringing innovative and convenient experiences to simplify people’s daily lives.”
“We are delighted to partner with many of India’s top brands to offer a comprehensive solution that helps you securely access and manage your everyday essentials. From boarding passes to loyalty cards, and event tickets to public transport passes – they’re there when you need them,” Ram said.

In addition to purchasing movie tickets and flight tickets, the application will also permit individuals to utilize their loyalty points and gift cards. Through partnerships with platforms such as Flipkart, Dominos, Shoppers Stop, and loyalty program enablers like Pinelabs, EasyRewardz, and Twid, Google has enabled this feature.

Additionally, Google has joined forces with integrators Wavelynx and Alert Enterprise to provide users the option to save and access a corporate ID within the wallet application.

By enabling the smart personalization settings in Gmail, any event or ticket confirmations received in a user’s Gmail account will automatically be displayed in their Google Wallet.

According to the company, they have partnered with various airlines such as Air India and Air India Express, as well as online travel agencies like MakeMyTrip, EaseMyTrip, and ixigo.

This collaboration enables travelers to conveniently store and retrieve their mobile boarding passes through the wallet app. In addition, Pixel users can easily add their boarding passes to Google Wallet by capturing a screenshot and selecting the “Add to Google Wallet” option.
