Google launches Cameos: video-based Q&A App Aimed At Celebs And Public Figures

A new app from Google called Cameos is a video-based Q&A app. It allows people to answer questions about themselves and share the results directly on Google. You can download it from the App Store. Many celebs and public figures are always subject to the recent Google searches. So, this app is aimed towards such celebs and public figures. They can use this app to answer the questions by their fans in their own voice, instead of getting answers posted on news and other websites.

Google rolled out a platform called “Posts on Google” in the past. This platform allowed some people and organizations to post their views directly to Google’s search result pages. So, the app Cameos is just an extension of this platform.

Initially, when this platform was created by Google, it was limited to some celebrities, sports teams and leagues, museums, and movie studios. Last year, it was expanded to local businesses allowing them to publish their views, products, and services. Google was already experimenting with a feature to add celebs’ video answers into search results.

People those who are allowed to use this service can post updates to Google such as text, images, video, links, GIFs, events, etc to other sites. We can also consider it as Google’s Twitter aimed at helping users to find quick answers to questions.

Cameos app specifically designed for video posts

The description given in the App Store reads as: “Record video answers to the most asked questions on Google and then post them right to Google. Now, when people search for you, they’ll get answers directly from you.”

Celebs can view the top questions asked on the internet to decide which those they want to answer. They can easily answer to questions using their iPhone’s camera and answers will be directly published to Google search and in the Google app.

Q&A feature is a part of Posts on Google using video

The similar Q&A feature was launched by Instagram this July. Users can post stories with a ‘Questions’ widget for asking any question along with an answer box to get answers from their followers. This feature became very popular in no time and was found in almost everyone’s story feed.

Google’s Cameos video answers could also become popular as they would only appear when that question is searched on Google. Google has tried to compete social media platforms for years but always resulted in failures such as Orkut, Lively, Google Wave, Google Buzz, Google+, etc. So, Cameos would help Google to compete other social media platforms or at least improve what it does best: Search.

Google made it clear that the feature is a part of its earlier efforts around Posts on Google using video. According to the description of the app, more questions will be added for celebs to answer on regular basis.

Accessing Cameos is completely based on invitation. If you are interested, you can download the iOS app to request access.
