People around the globe have barely started using 5G and China has already started its work on the development of a 6G wireless network.
Yes. You heard it right. While most of the Indians still struggle with buffering YouTube videos on the 4G network, our neighbors are working 6G networks. An unprecedented move, it sets new standards of rivalry in technology between different countries.
Development of 6G network
The science and technology ministry of China announced on November 6 that it has formed two teams to oversee the research and study of 6G.
Technology Bureau of China has formally set up a team of experts to work on it.
The team consists of 37 telecommunication specialists from different universities, institutions, and corporations which will lay out the development of 6G and prove its scientific feasibility.
Deputy Minister of the Technology Bureau, Wang Xi, said that Bureau was set to work with the experts to design a specific research plan for 6G and carry out preliminary research.
What’s the status of 5G in China?
China has just launched the 5G network in about 50 Chinese cities, including Beijing and Shanghai, on November 1, with the cheapest option costing just under $20.
All three state-backed operators – China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom, are providing similar plans for their local users.
China plans to activate over 130,000 5G base stations by the end of the year which will help it to build one of the largest 5G networks globally.
Not only this, but China also is on its way of making a 5G equipped high-speed train station in collaboration with Chinese tech giant Huawei.
According to Huawei, visitors to the station will be able to download a 2GB high-definition film in less than 20 seconds, which is ten times faster than a standard 4g network.
However, it’s important to note that even in China, not everyone and every place has access to the 5G network.
Wuzhen- 5G smart town of China
Chinese Engineers have built the country’s first 5G smart town near Shanghai and named it Wuzhen. Residents of Wuzhen will be able to download TV series, movies or games at an impressive speed of 1.7GB per second.
Wuzhen is an ancient water town that boasts of a super-fast internet connection in every part of the place.
More than 140 transmitters send 5G signals to every corner of this 27-square-mile town of Wuzhen.
