Tom Corley spent almost 5 years interviewing 233 wealthy individuals who are successful in business as well as life. To make this survey more powerful, he compared the habits of successful people with the habits of individuals who have low income.
He interviewed 128 low-income individuals who earn less than $35,000 in a year. Tom wrote a brilliant book “Change Your Habits, Change Your Life,” in which he says successful people set themselves apart from others by practising these 7 habits.
1. They get up early
You won’t believe this. More 50 percent of self-made millionaires wake up 3 hours before starting their actual work. In his research, these 3 hours is termed as ‘Golden time’. If they don’t work during those 3 hours, what do they do instead?
They exercise and plan things. They plan things and that’s why they are always 10 steps ahead of others. During that time, they do all the things that matter the most. This helps them to stay confident throughout the day because they have a plan in place.
2. They read, a lot
88% of the wealthy individuals interviewed by Corley said that they spend a minimum of 30 minutes a day to read. They also said that reading helps them to improve their concentration and focus. Reading doesn’t mean reading some entertainment materials.
They enjoy reading history, self-motivation and biography books. Some said they prefer reading novels and stories. Reading for pleasure helps you boost your career to great heights.
3. Exercise is not an option, its priority
Working out daily makes you feel motivated and helps you stay fit and strong. 76% of self-made millionaires said that they devote 30 minutes a day for jogging, walking, or biking. That’s how they keep their body and mind under their control.
Richard Branson, a self-made billionaire, says he wakes up at 5 am daily to play tennis. He strongly believes that this habit has helped him double his productivity.
4. Spend time with people who inspire and motivate you
“You are only as successful as those you frequently associate with,” Corley says.
Develop a relationship with people who share the same interests as you. Keep in touch with them and try to spend more time. That’s how you stay motivated. Meet motivated and positive individuals and bring them into your network of like-minded people.
Stay away from and negative people who radiate toxic energy that brings you down. Be choosy when you select people with whom you are gonna spend your time.
5. They get enough sleep
I have some good news for people who sleep for long hours. The legend Albert Einstein said that you should sleep at least 10 hours a day. 89% of wealthy individuals interviewed by Corley said that they sleep for seven to eight hours a day.
Sleep makes you a better person with creative thinking. Your memory power will get boosted and you will perform better.
6. They have multiple streams of incomes
“If you rely on a single source of income, the chances of you facing a failure are very high,” Corley says. He also suggests that developing multiple streams of income will make you feel confident.
Now the question is, how many streams one should have?
Before reaching the million-dollar mark, 65 percent of wealthy individuals said that they have 3 streams of income. Facing downturns in business is natural. When you have multiple streams of income, you can face any downturn.
